But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing—and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar. “Disney’s Planes” takes off in theaters on Aug. 9, 2013.

DIY Hummingbird Food

We have a hummingbird family within our garden. I've been watching two baby humming birds along with the parents fly around from tree to tree. It's so fascinating to watch them grow up and then each year have them come back. Within a day we see about 15 all together, five that stay right  in our yard itself so I make sure to have plenty of food for them both a friendly nectar garden for them to enjoy as well as a feeder. Instead of buying hummingbird food though, it's so much easier to make it myself! It's easy, and a whole lot cheaper than what you buy in stores. Water and sugar, that's it!

Ingredients and Directions for making food

it's a 4:1 ratio, Four parts water, 1 part sugar. Heat your water till it boils , turn off heat and stir in sugar till it dissolves then let it cool before pouring into your feeders .

The hummingbirds swarm the feeders all day.

Fitbit Zip Review

Keeping up with your fitness this summer? Looking for something to help monitor and keep a better eye on how you are progressing? Well Radio Shack can help you out.
I have for the last few weeks been reviewing the Fitbit Zip  the last few weeks , or so my husband has been.
This small Fitbit fits and clips on your clothes, best places are your pants pocket and or even on your bra to best keep track of your activity.

The wireless tracker tracks your steps, distance and calories burned. Easily syncs to your computer or even selective smartphones. The zip comes with a battery of its own and you can easily replace it. It's also sweat , rain and splash proof so don't worry about it getting a little wet during your work out.
My husband wore this FitBit to better keep track of how he's during each day. His first week looked like this

Tracking your workout progress has never been easier with the Zip. Log in your daily meals to keep track of calories you take in verses what you've burned and see the difference. Check out how close you are to your step goal for the day or see your highest activity level each day. The Zip does not log your sleep but you can add that in yourself. Add in other things like your blood pressure, heart rate, even your glucose. My husband is diabetic so this feature comes in handy. You can also view weekly, or monthly graphs that show you how well you've done over a certain amount of time. Tracking weight? Add that in as well and track how well you are reaching your goal!

Collect badges for each major milestone you reach, your first 5,000 steps, or 10,000! Each time you login to your Fitbit you can also team up with friends, encouraging each other and join groups for even more support.

Thinking about tracking your workouts? I highly recommend checking out Fitbit Zip along with all the other tracker Fitbit Offers, also stay tuned for the Sports Tracker Heart Rate Monitor Review which goes along with the Fitbit. Syncing the HRM is as easy as using your phone and logging into Fitbit as well, you can monitor your heart rate for each activity not to mention also distance !

You can pick up a Fitbit Zip at Radio Shack for $59.00. They also have many other trackers to choose from so be sure to check them all out and get moving today!

To Pinch or Not to Pinch- Tomato Suckers

There is a debate on whether or not to pinch Tomato  side shoots, or suckers off your tomato plants. Not sure what a sucker is? Look no further,

I have been gardening for several years now and more than half the time pinch the suckers off. I have experimented with this, leaving some alone, taking others off and my preference is to pinch. My reason is this, those suckers aren't just any old branches, it's pretty much a separate plant so when they sprout up just before the plant fruits, energy goes to growing that sucker instead of pushing all it's energy towards the fruit. The times I leave the suckers on, my produce seems to me smaller which doesn't help when I need the bulk for canning.

Everyone has their preferences in which I do not mind to hear but in my experience it's best to trim those suckers. The best thing of all I do find from removing the suckers ( not just the solid produce I get to harvest)  is that sucker can be planted!

More plants, come on who wouldn't be excited for that fact right there?!  You can plant the side shoot and get a late harvest from the garden. I have done it many times.

What is your preference, to Pinch or Not to Pinch?

New Project- Shelves for the Birthday Girl

My daughter had a birthday this week, she turned 8!  She's a book lover and I had an idea to get all the books off the top of her dresser. Sort of clean it up and let her have her own space. My girls share a room so each one needs their own space.

My idea was to build a shelf but with some cubbies so she could put other things besides her books away neatly. All it took was a quick design on paper and asking for a certain dimension and my husband went right to work on it!

Here it is from start to finish

This will be the side, I kept changing the sweep of the curve, thank goodness for erasers!

Right before it was sanded and painted!

Used RoomMates wall stickers which are perfect for kids rooms!

She loves the shelf! We are in the process of making another shelf just like this so our middle daughter can have her own as well above her bed!  Stay tuned for that project!
What's happening in your project world?

Where does The Hunger Games: Catching Fire start off after the first installment? Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever.

The movie will be directed by Francis Lawrence, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy that has over 50 million copies in print in the U.S. alone.

Fitness review- BodyMedia

Trying to stay fit and track your progress? BodyMedia can help you with just that!

What is the BodyMedia ?

It is an armband that tracks your all day activity in whatever you are doing, as well as your sleeping habits that gives you real time accurate readings throughout your day. It's comfortable to wear and doesn't ever get in the way.
I can wear it throughout most yoga workouts.
With sensor readings that collect data every minute it gives you the best accurate reading for your activity level throughout a day for whatever you are doing. Keeping track of your activity has never been more easier with this system.
How it works -
Once you get the system you will charge it, simply by plugging it into the computer with a cord that is given to you. While it charges you can fill out your information-  height , weight, and the normal time you go to bed and wake up. You set a base line for what the system will use while it tracks your progress.
Set up your goals! I set mine for Very Active which fit me best for my recovery.
Each day you log in your meals and it will calculate the calories you've taken in as well as the nutritional break down which is important to keep an eye on. You can set it up to track different areas here is an example of  what you can track
Once all the information is filled you and the band is charged you start to track the day. Plug the band in once a day to update the readings. I do it each morning and then log in my food at night.
After you log in your food you will be given a graph of it's breakdown. You will know where all your nutrition and or lack there of it is coming from. By logging in your food the BodyMedia is also able to track how much calories you've burned as well throughout the day. If you are trying to lose weight you , gain and or maintain your weight you can easily see if you are on track.
Here is what the dashboard looks like.
You get the run down of your day, listing the target then the actual . I ate a ton of fruit and vegetables that day plus chicken fried steak,  I never reach my calorie intake though but it isn't something I worry about.  As long as I am not hungry it's not an issue in my opinion, use this as you will as a guideline of course.
Here is a range of my activity over a course a couple weeks.
The red line is the goal, so over time days, a week or a month you can see if you've reached your goals or not and strive for better! Forgot to wear it July 4th and some days I had to take it off for half a day that's why there are low days.
I like the break down of activity is, there are steps then activity which I have found is very accurate. I ride my bike, then do yoga, so while my steps are short during a yoga hour my activity level is high. Same with steps for biking, my activity is through the roof. The sleep is accurate as well, and it's given me a glimpse into how little sleep I get everyday. Nothing I can do to prevent that though ( pain is pain!)
Are you striving for getting more active? Want to track your progress and workouts? BodyMedia is truly a great fitness side kick to help you reach your goals. Whatever your activity level, manage your goals, gain personal bests and watch your progress grow.

There are deals right now you should check out so don't miss out! Apps for your phone are also helpful. There are programs like - MyFitnesspal,  The Biggest Loser, Spark People and more!

Bikram Balance Vitality Drink - Review

Have you ever heard of Bikram Yoga? One of the hottest classes of yoga ever, in which the room is heated to 105! Hot right? Now think of all that you're doing within the class itself, a hot powerful workout that works your body hard all the while you are losing electrolytes.
Excessive sweating ( let's face it in a room like that it's going to happen!)  will do more harm than good though leading to dehydration.
Most of you know I've been doing yoga for my physical therapy since my surgery, and if you think it doesn't work the body the same as a high impact workout think again .
Here I am doing the Kapotasana- King Pigeon Pose
Yoga is a lot of work and you certainly get the heart going during class, leaving me in search for a drink that will help replace all the electrolytes I've lost during class. I finally found one and that is Bikram Balance.

The creators themselves of Bikram put their heads together and created a drink that will balance and recharge your hard working body after a workout.
Bikram Balance is a fruit and vegetables vitality drink that replenish the body's lost electrolytes while adding a wide variety of benefits - all while tasting good!

I was given both the Berry and Original Balance, I happen to like the Original much more. It's green and you simply use one scoop in an 8 oz cup of liquid.
The Original

The Berry Flavor
You can mix it into your favorite drink, but I like it with just water. Most days I take a full water bottle and mix a scoop in there to take on my bike ride each night.
It's slightly sweet, but nothing overwhelming. I'm in love with this drink, really I have had much better post workouts while on the Balance and I work out a lot!

Here is a run down on the drink -
  •  Bikram provides 15 servings of real fruit and vegetable superfoods in every single scoop. A few that are included are   barely, chlorella, spirulina, carrot juice, broccoli, spinach, blueberries, raspberries, tart cherries and tomatoes.
  • You get the proper pH balance and alkalinity that helps balance blood sugar levels, which face it sports drinks out there are full of sugar to start with. You don't need to chug down a half a glass of sugar in most sports drinks, it doesn't help you. Bikram Balance also helps improve your digestion with natural digestive enzymes - it's also dairy free!

Check out their website here - http://www.bikrambalance.com/  Where you can  buy your choice of Original or Berry or check out the testimonials of people who'd tried the drink! They also have a shaker that would be awesome to have along side of you and your yoga mat. Makes it easy to make a drink fast and when you need it the most!

Temporal Artery Thermometer Review

As a parent seeing your child sick is not easy, and we want to do everything and anything to make them feel better. While trying to make them feel better we are also faced with a few back falls, the trouble of convincing them to take their medicine, or trying to take their temperature. I know when my kids don’t feel well, holding still to let me check their temperature is something that is not welcomed by the sick child , up until now anyways.

I recently reviewed a wonderful tool that is a must for every parent, the Temporal Artery Thermometer by Exergen.
No waiting nearly three minutes to hold a thermometer under their tongue, no more hassling with sore ears and worrying if you held an ear thermometer correctly for it to read right, The Temporal Artery Thermometer is a quick slide along the forehead and you are done.

My daughter happy to test it out!
I love this thing, seriously only takes seconds to get a reading.

Wish I had this when my kids were younger, a baby is the hardest one to take a reading with so this really is a must to have on hand.

Directions are easy, press and hold the button, then lightly scan over the forehead before letting the button go. You will get an accurate reading every time. I used it up against the ear thermometer we have, but apparently three out of five times I didn't hold it in the ear enough or my kids moved because they don’t ‘like things in their ears. Well who would?  Forget me trying to get a reading with a normal oral thermometer with the kids. They would not have that and frankly they've chewed on it so much I don’t know if it will even work. I think one of the best things that come out of this, you can take this reading whether they are asleep or awake and they barely even know you’re doing it!

I highly recommend the Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer. Take the guess work and hassle out of trying to take an accurate reading when someone’s not feeling well.

Check out Exergen http://www.exergen.com/ . You can pick up one at a number of stores, including Walgreens, Toys R Us , Babies R Us and Walmart. For a full list, use the link above to see where you can find it!

New Look for the blog!

I spent most the day updated the look for the blog. It has been over two years since I changed it so what do you think? Still some things to work out, but hopefully it will be easier to view and load for everyone! Not sure I'll want to be changing it anytime soon considering the hassle it brings but I like the simple look about it!
Happy Tuesday All!

Will it work...?

Couple years ago I came up with an idea to use a dead tree as a perfect trellis for the beans, it was already in the yard, too much work to get it out and beans only need to go up so why not right? It worked and I have since kept growing the beans there. It's only two feet worth of planting area against the base and then straight up to the sky! Worked perfectly.

Today going through the garden I have these very tall leafy branches throughout the garden, they make pretty tiny white and purple flowers so I hate to pull them out. Right in the center of the garden though I have the framework for the cold frame that we keep up. My idea that may or may not work is if I wrap the branches around this frame, will they blossom? Will it work?

I also wrapped it around the tomato cages.

We shall see if it works!    Anything happening in your garden?

Had enough seed posts yet? I warned you about them, and true to word I'll have plenty more coming your way. Today it's about Feverfew - A wonderful medical herb to have handy. Used in infusions it can help ward off migraines. they leaves taste a little bitter so don't eat more than about 4 a day if you nibble on it.

Something to keep in mind with Feverfew is Bees dislike the pollen so you should really keep this plant away from anything that needs to have bees pollinate it a good twenty to thirty feet will do or just plant flowers around them that don't bloom at the same time.
Feverfew also sows itself easily on it's own so if you don't want more of it popping up in the garden you best pick the spent flowers before it sprinkles all over the ground.
Perfecting full sun it will tolerate shade. The seeds are easy to collect .

Most flowers once the petals fall off you will automatically see the seeds, not the case with Feverfew.
Once the petals have died off you will find the flower turning a brownish yellow color, the center of this flower holds the carpels, which is stigmata and styles. Along those are the stamens, you brush them off and underneath are the seeds. you'll collect in a jar or bag and keep in a cool dry place.

Easy to grow high yields and pretty flowers will brighten up any garden. it does not like soggy soils, and it will die back in the winter. If you want to use the flowers for dried arrangements simply hand stems upside down and let it air dry.

Binteo- New Social Network

I warn you now, the site is addicting!

Binteo.com is a new ground breaking social network that brings people together with interests they share. It pretty much puts Pinterest, Facebook and Instagram together in one fabulous place where people who share the same interest as you can come together. You can share advice, ask for tips, learn some new tricks and share what you know on certain topics with other's that share the same enthusiasm.  I was recently invited to join up to Binteo.com and see what I thought about it- this site is free and I was in no way shape or form paid for this review. This jumped out at me because I have a huge passion for my hobbies and wanted to share with you all.

A little about the site-

There are a couple different communities to choose from, Gardening ( now you see why I'm hooked to the site!)  Cooking <-- who can resist that? Photography,  Autism and a new Fashion category . Within each community you have special areas for specific topics. I'm pretty much stuck in all of them as of now.

Because the Binteo communities are specialized with people seeking specific topics, you don't have to worry about bothering people by posting picture after pictures ( think of your Facebook page being flooded by pictures you just uploaded) Here you have people who are after the same thing you are, sharing the love for you're hobby!
You can talk about what you're making dinner or get some tips on bugs taking over the garden in real time. Share your photographs and get some feedback as far as lighting, or composition  I get real time feedback on how to make my pictures better and I love it! I'm an artist at heart so being able to have fellow photographers leave me feedback to help feed my passion is just want I'm after.

One fallback though about the site is it seems to go offline a bit, and or while I'm trying to comment. I am pretty certain this is because it's a new site and they are smoothing out the edges still. It's a wonderful work in progress and I truly look forward to watching it grow. I've met some wonderful people there already and I love how the site isn't about who you know but what you do know and can share. The idea behind it is much more rewarding than other sites strictly to share a photograph.
Here is a video that tells you more

Check out Binteo today!  If you happen to join, you can look me up , @motherbugs
