DIY All Purpose Cleaner

Taking care of a house full of kids is a messy job, and somebody has to clean it up. It takes up a bulk of anyone’s day honestly and the endless cleaning products is overwhelming at times. One for showers, one for counters, one for appliances, one for glass, you know the list. All purpose cleaners are great, they carry the job of many cleaners in one, but you still get one bad drawback – it’s harsh chemicals!

Walking up and down the cleaning aisle is a violation on my nose every time. The fumes alone have me want to get out of there as quick as possible. There are better ways!

People have been making their own cleaners for decades, and it doesn’t just save you money but it cuts down on the toxins in the house. You don’t need to be breathing in chemicals and you sure as heck do not need a lingering layer of it on surfaces in the house.

What’s the DIY  All Purpose Cleaner made of and why?

Along with water, the solution is made up of –

Isopropyl Alcohol or Rubbing Alcohol , kills germs and bacteria as well as helps cut through  the dirt and grime. It doesn’t leave a streak on surfaces which makes it a good cleaner.
White Vinegar is very effective at killing most bacteria, germs and mold due to the acidity level, it’s also great at getting stains out of most everything.
Castille Soap–a true soap made with 100% plant oils  and has no chemical detergents which makes it biodegradable. This is a base for many DIY soaps, shampoos and other cleaners, doesn’t leave a soapy film and washing out very easily of fabrics/carpets.

Melaleuca Oil or Tea tree oil, cleanses and purifies the air as well as surfaces. It’s antibacterial, antiviral, antimicrobial, antiseptic , even a fungicide, so germs don’t stand a chance.
Lemon Oil, cleanses and purifies the air and surfaces. It has anti-infection, astringent, detoxifying, antiseptic, disinfectant, anti-fungal properties, so this is a great oil to use for cleaning.
White Fir Oil, which is a highly aromatic oil is a great one to add to any cleaner. It’s crisp clean scent can de-stress any room and give it an uplifting energized feeling. I’ve also noticed it can give counters and floors an extra shine, so can’t complain on that! It also helps support respiratory function, so it really helps during the winter months.

The soap can be found in most grocery stores, near cleaning products it’s a ” natural” cleaner so if your store carries some green products it may be there. Places like Whole Foods would definitely have them as well.
