DIY Mold and Mildew Cleaner

Mold. No one likes mold, and around this time of year mold seems to be lurking around each window. In my house we have heat vents close by the windows, curtains trapping heat against the window which is freezing cold and that’s a prime spot for mold and mildew to grow. It needs to be cleaned quick but I’m not willing to grab just any cleaner to use in my house. With the position of the troubles areas, if I used any store bought cleaner I would be smelling that chemical scent for hours, and the heat would only make it worse as it’s directly above all the vents. It would just spread that toxic air even further, and I am not having that in my house around my children.

Essential oils are a great staple to have in the home. Many of the oils have antibacterial, antiviral, antimicrobial, anti-infection, antiseptic, disinfectant,  & anti-fungal properties, making them a must have for cleaning solutions. No need for chemicals that can cause you and the family harm, you get safe oils that can be used throughout the home and they get the job done! Both the oils used in this recipe will help kill the bacteria and even keep it from growing back , leaving you with a nice clean fresh scent and clean surface. This is also a great shower spray to use between uses and makes a good solution for kitchen sinks and bathrooms.

Ingredients
1 cup Distilled White Vinegar
1 cup water
* 20 Drops Pure Melaleuca Oil ( 100% Tea Tree Oil)
* 20 drops Lemon Oil
***10 drops Purify Oil Blend
Empty, Clean Spray Bottle

*Both oils have antibacterial, antiviral, antimicrobial, anti-infection, astringent, detoxifying, antiseptic, disinfectant, anti-fungal properties.

***Purify helps detox the air of odor, when it’s needed for an area to clean up I add the oils in- when it’s not needed I leave it out.

Mix in the water and vinegar, then add in the oils to the bottle. Put the top on and shake gently before each use.

To Use- Simply spray on area needed and use cloth to wipe off. I find with heavier soiled areas a warm damp cloth helps clean up faster after letting mixture sit for about 5-10 minutes. For showers , spray on after your shower and leave it be to prevent mildew from forming.

    Thanks for this Melanie. I have a lot of that black horrible mould forming around the seals of my bedroom window as that gets condensation almost every morning in these winter months. I hate using the shop bought stuff as it makes my bedroom smell like a swimming pool! Your version is much nicer!
