Sweet Treat Friday- Halfway Bars

Halfway between a bar and a cookie, these sweet bars are a kids favorite. My kids think they taste like a brownie or a cookie, but never can decide which it is. An on going argument that ends in a sweet taste testing every time I say I am making them ! Try them yourself and see what you think they are!
Ingredients
1 cup (2 sticks) melted butter
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 egg yolks
1 teaspoons water
2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup of chocolate chip cookies
For the Glaze
2 egg whites
1 cup brown sugar
Preheat the oven to 350F, and grease a 9×13 baking pan.
In a small bowl or pan melt the butter . Pour the butter into a large bowl. Separate the eggs, saving the whites for the glaze. Add the sugars, vanilla, salt, baking soda, and baking powder along with the 2 eggs yolks, water and then flour. Form it into a stiff dough. Spread the dough into the prepared pan and spread chocolate chips over it.
For the glaze. Mix the egg whites into the brown sugar and stir till it becomes well mixed. Pour the glaze over the bars. Bake for about 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean in the center.
Enjoy!! You can mix this up and put M and M’s instead of the chocolate chips 🙂

I've always ate eggs and either raised chickens or bought them from individuals so no cruel concerns here. LOL
I'm going to try and make this in the microwave and I'll tell you how I do.
This sounds so good but I can't bear the thought of turning on my oven.

I know a lot of folks who don’t eat eggs (they’re allergic, for health reasons, or concerns about animal cruelty). Here’s an awesome site that gives tips on cooking and baking without eggs: http://EggFreeLiving.com
