Ghosts Of Love Book Review
NEW RELEASE… Richard McNeil has loved three women in his life.
He feels abandoned by all three.
His wife passed away in childbirth, leaving him alone, a single father with an infant daughter. His daughter, Emily, now twenty years old, is leaving, marrying and moving away. Two months ago, Kim, his almost-fiancé, the only woman he has dated in over twenty years, left as they broke off their relationship.
On the weekend of Emily’s wedding, he is haunted by his memories. The day his wife passed away plays in his mind like a video. Stories of Emily’s childhood leave him both smiling and wanting to cry. And worst of all, his recollections of meeting, dating, and falling in love with Kim almost seem real, as if he can stretch out his hand and touch her. No matter how hard he tries, he cannot understand what went wrong between the two of them, and, although he yearns for a reconciliation, he cannot dismiss the cruel things she said to him.
His memories haunt him like ghosts, and he knows he will not be happy until they leave him be. He wants his future to be like his past, and he suspects, that it is he who holds on to his memories, not they to him. How can Richard release them? Perhaps, he finally can lay his wife to rest. Surely, he can mumble the words to give Emily away. But releasing Kim might mean giving up all hope of ever being together. How can he do that?

My Review – After losing his wife during childbirth, Richard felt as if his life was over, but he had a little baby girl to take care of and so he went on. Raising his daughter brought a lot of happiness to his life, but also sad memories of what could have been wife. While he hadn’t ever thought about dating while raising his daughter all those years, he meets a woman, Kim, at the college he works at. Though they are almost complete opposites, it seems almost too good to be true, and things really hit it off, until something was said and upset called off not just their relationship but their friendship.
With a heavy heart, and memories of the past flooding him, he feels alone, and like he will never be able to move on. With his daughters wedding before him he tries to keep going forwards but his mind circles back to being alone once again. His daughter is moving out, starting a life of her own, a family, and he feels as if he has nothing, that is until his friend shows up at the wedding. Richard wonders if there was a chance after all for his happy ever after, but can he over come what Kim said to him? Can he put his past behind him and focus on the happiness that is right before him? You’ll have to find out and read Ghosts of Love yourself!
What a great book! This was a real tear jerker for me, usually books don’t get me that easily but this one did. Life isn’t always rainbows and sunshine, but if you just change your perspective you’ll see that good things are all around you! That’s what Richard learns in this book, he doesn’t regret raising his daughter single at all, but he never really gave himself time to heal and move forwards either, which can really change the way things happen later on. I really liked how down to earth, and relatable it was, David Burnett did a wonderful job writing this story! I highly recommend!
