It was 33 degrees here this morning! We are trying to make it until the book release before we turn on our heat here, so yes, I will indulge in yet another Christmas book because other than Christmas and the hope to ski this year, what does cold weather bring us? Less daylight? Christmas cookies, Thanksgiving, more food that I will have to work harder to work off.  Nope, I am going to stay positive and indulge in Christmas books! This was such a great book! It is the second book in the series.

We begin this book with Hailey Bennett wondering what to do. Her new foster mother, Mrs. Kirby had asked her and the other three girls to write a letter to Santa. She decided that she would ask for a puppy with lots of kisses. Hailey had a long road to get where she was. She had been told that her mother had died when she was just four years old and they did not know how to find her father. Hailey’s new foster mother tried really hard to make her feel at home, but it is so hard to trust anyone after such a hard life. Her new foster mother presented her with a stuffed dog to represent the future of getting a real one after the holidays. Hailey immediately named her Charlie. Mrs. Kirby also have her a new nightgown and surprised her with the news that the next day they would be going Christmas shopping so they could get gifts for the other girls from them. They had never done such a thing. The other kids even saved cookies for her to decorate. We are then fast forwarded to Hailey as an adult reading to children in the library. She has a secret; she has a pen name- Lee Merriweather. Ms. Merriweather was very popular as an author, something a foster child would not be OK with. Most of the books were written about a boy named, Charlie. Charlie and his three friends would get into all sorts of trouble and learned a life lesson or two from them including a happy ending. Hailey’s sister, Alissa had been dumped by her fiance’, Jed just days before their Christmas Eve wedding. Travel arrangements had already been made and accommodations. We are then taken on a journey of Hailey and her pen name and someone discovering it and well..you will just have to read it to find out the rest.

I cannot wait for the next book in the series and to go back and read the first book in this series! I read this book in one afternoon! Was such a quick and cute read!
