Daisy’s Choice by Mike Owens

Daisy knows what she loves and what she wants in life, and things were going pretty well. Enjoying sticking close to her Dad she learns a lot of life’s lessons, ones through the years of wisdom from her father. Feeling a bit like an outcast when it came to her mother, Daisy stuck close to her Dad. Though Her mother loved her very much, she had an ever growing tight bond with her day.

Daisy’s father learns he has cancer, and quickly succumbs to the illness not too soon after. Determined to keep going Daisy following in the same footsteps like before carrying out chores she used to help her father with day to day, only things just don’t go as planned. After a severe accident, Daisy finds herself blind and burned over seventy percent of her body as well as permanently disfigured with nothing left to live for. Her life has spiraled out of her control all in an instant and she wants nothing to do with anything. Life she feels is happening around her as if she was almost not even there. New struggles to deal with and pain taking up much of her thoughts Daisy feels frustrated and angry with her medical team that barely if at all even consult with her. It feels as though her very own wises, thoughts and feelings mean nothing to anyone around her and Daisy has reached her breaking point.

With nothing left to live for and having enough with suffering, Daisy gives up on life itself, trying to find the quickest way out that she can. Less of a burden to anyone around her she wants to end things, but as a new therapist begins to treat her it puts a shadow of a question back into her thoughts. Is dying really the way to go?

Daisy must face the most difficult thing of her life- herself. Can Daisy find it in her own heart to love herself? Or will she continue with the decision to end things once she’s out of the hospital? You will have to read Daisy’s Choice to find out.

This was a difficult story to read, although it is a heartwarming story of over coming obstacles, it is not an easy subject to read. It’s a deep, heart wrenching story all the same, touches you where it hurts the most- right in the heart. Mike Owens did a wonderful job placing his readers right in the middle of a story they would get swept up with emotion.
