Weekend Project- So much work

Gardening is a lot of work. There’s always something to do, and it never really seems to end. I don’t mind this, not one bit. While the kids argue in the sandbox, or chase each other crazy I’m in my own world full of plants and dirt not to mention a couple hundred different kind of bugs! I won’t get into bugs though, those creepy things are everywhere and end up jumping out in your face when you least expect it!

This weekend was a major clean up. Half the tomato plants are finished so I had to pull those up. There’s still  ten out in the garden with plenty of green tomatoes on it. I’ll keep them out there one more week (covering them with a frost blanket at night). Besides everything else still growing, I had to weed through strawberries and start to get those ready for the winter. While moving them though I found much more work that needed to be done.

Remember when I posted about Runners? You can read about them here. Quick re-cap though, runners are baby strawberry plants “running” off of the mother plant. Once the runner is seen you need to bury it against some dirt until a good root system is grown. After that snip it off and plant it.
Root System
New Plant, woohoo!

I came across two dozen runners between the rocks today. I kept most of them there in he rocks where they settled themselves, the others I started to plant in small containers.
It took about three hours to get the garden and yard all set and ready for winter, then stood back viewed it in all it’s clean glory only to realize, – I’d have more to do next week!

I’m tired just thinking about it!
